ABOUT THE “SAVE MORE THAN FUEL” CAMPAIGN
More than 40 of Europe’s leading oil companies have joined forces through EUROPIA, the European Petroleum Industry Association, to run a
pan-European consumer awareness campaign on the efficient use of transport fuels.
The “Save more than fuel” campaign, which offers consumers simple tips for driving more efficiently, launches simultaneously in 29 European
countries on the 27th May 2008. It represents the first time the European oil industry has united to engage with consumers in such a public
initiative.
All 17 EUROPIA members are participating in the campaign, which has been developed in partnership with the European Commission and is
championed by Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs, and supported by Vice President of the Commission Jacques Barrot.
In addition, 25 non-EUROPIA petroleum companies have been mobilised via the National Oil Industry Associations to join the campaign. The
initiative is in line with the European Union’s commitment to reduce CO
2 emissions and focus on energy efficiency.
The campaign involves over 45,000 petrol stations across 29 European countries. Around 30 million leaflets with 10 driving tips will be
distributed to road users at the participating petrol stations. Additional promotional materials featuring the campaign’s theme and tagline
are also being displayed to raise consumers’ awareness.
A website
www.savemorethanfuel.eu has also been created to help consumers understand how to drive more efficiently through humorous animations of the driving tips. All the materials have been translated into 24 different languages.
Countries participating in the campaign include: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
The ultimate objective of the campaign is to drive behavioural change to “save more than fuel”.
